Rachel Darnell’s most recent group of paintings in her exhibition
titled “Interconnected” continues her passion for expressing
contemporary variations using antiquated weaving techniques. An intricate
process of cutting linear lengths of canvas are interposed above and
below the paintings surface. The embroider gives distinction by combining
white and gold leaf metal that subside into abstract foliages encompassing
the textural canvas weave. The surfaces are again penetrated giving
rise and fall to painterly fields of oil color. The prominently textured
weave achieves an architectural element of strength thru form while
defying the intricate nature of weaving. The exquisite “Guggenheim
Trance” discloses a passage toward a spiritual timelessness
of desire, beauty and strength. Rachel Darnell creates pieces that communicate
many cultures, ideologies and periods of art history while distinguished
as a contemporary. To find the thread that connects all things is only
part of the philosophy and physicality embedded within her weave.
